Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the preparation of financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role requires proficiency in bookkeeping, tax management, budgeting, and financial reporting, as well as the ability to mentor junior staff and communicate financial information effectively to diverse stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain comprehensive financial records to support the organization’s accounting functions. Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring all reports comply with applicable laws and accounting standards. Manage invoice processing and payroll activities efficiently and accurately.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes by reconciling accounts and preparing necessary documentation. Perform bookkeeping tasks using Xero, including managing accounts, reconciling bank statements, tracking cash flow, and generating detailed financial reports to provide insight into the company’s financial health.
Contribute to budgeting and forecasting efforts by preparing financial forecasts and analyzing actual results against budgeted figures to identify variances. Prepare and file tax returns for various entities, manage tax-related responsibilities, ensure timely payments, and stay informed about changes in tax legislation to maintain compliance.
Maintain adherence to accounting standards and tax laws by collaborating with auditors and ensuring all financial activities align with legal regulations. Identify inefficiencies within financial processes and recommend improvements, such as system upgrades and streamlined procedures, to enhance operational efficiency.
Conduct thorough reviews of financial statements and activity statements to ensure accuracy and completeness. Mentor junior accountants by reviewing their work, providing constructive feedback, and fostering their professional development. Present financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders, including findings, budgets, and budget variances.
Stay current with changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement within the finance function.
Required Qualifications
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards is essential. Proficiency in financial software, particularly Xero, is required, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to interact with clients and colleagues effectively.
