Job Summary
Aga Khan University (AKU), Pakistan’s pioneering private international university established in 1983, is renowned for its commitment to education, research, and healthcare of international standards tailored to the needs of Pakistan and its neighboring regions. The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, through its Outreach and Research Programme, manages ten community-based field sites nationwide, including four in Karachi, with a strong focus on improving women and child health outcomes. The department also hosts specialized Nutritional and Infectious Disease Research Laboratories that support a variety of nationally and internationally recognized research projects. Currently, the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health invites applications for a grant-funded contractual Driver position based in Karachi. This role is critical in supporting the department’s operational needs by ensuring safe and efficient transportation services.

Key Responsibilities
The Driver will be responsible for the safe and courteous operation of assigned vehicles, facilitating the transportation of staff, patients, laboratory specimens, office supplies, and goods. Maintaining defensive driving practices at all times is essential to ensure safety.

The role requires keeping vehicles clean inside and out and conducting daily inspections to confirm their proper condition. Accurate record-keeping is vital, including maintaining trip sheets, transportation forms, log books, vehicle maintenance records, fuel purchase logs, and incident or accident reports as required by management.

The Driver will perform minor vehicle maintenance tasks when necessary and coordinate with management and staff to schedule major or periodic maintenance to minimize service disruptions. In the event of accidents or medical emergencies, the Driver must respond promptly by notifying emergency responders and administering First Aid until professional help arrives.

Additional duties include safely loading and unloading goods, medicines, and office supplies at designated locations, and providing special driving services for international guests from donor agencies as directed by management. The Driver may also be assigned other tasks by management as needed.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a minimum basic general education and hold a valid, current Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) driving license. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, with a courteous and polite demeanor when interacting with staff, patients, and visitors.
