Safety Officer (Shipping & Port Experience)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual with at least one year of experience working in a port environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) awareness, advanced computer proficiency, and excellent reporting skills. This role requires a professional with outstanding verbal communication, a presentable demeanor, and strong interpersonal abilities. The primary responsibility is to ensure strict compliance with HSE protocols, maintain a safe working environment, and conduct vigilant monitoring across the terminal.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will conduct routine inspections throughout the terminal to verify adherence to HSE standards. This includes checking the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring safe working practices within the yards. Maintaining the readiness of firefighting systems and taking necessary actions under senior supervision is essential.

You will be responsible for verifying the adequacy and accessibility of emergency exits and promptly reporting any incidents while actively participating in investigation processes. Engaging in hazard identification, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments forms a critical part of the role.

Issuing on-site work permits after confirming compliance with all HSE requirements is required. Monitoring and maintaining life buoys at the wharf side, along with participating in inspections of firefighting apparatus across the terminal, will be part of your duties.

Participation in various HSE drills such as evacuation, life buoy, and spill drills is expected. You will assist in testing, inspecting, monitoring, and maintaining fire alarm and fire hydrant systems installed in different terminal areas.

Supporting the monitoring and maintenance of first aid boxes and supplies, and providing basic first aid when necessary, are key responsibilities. Delivering on-site safety talks and engaging in Integrated Management System (IMS) activities will also be part of your role.

You will attend QHSE-related training sessions and participate in environmental monitoring activities, including emission and drinking water testing. Identifying and reporting HSE issues, intervening when violations are observed, and documenting these incidents is crucial.

Monitoring hygienic conditions of terminal areas and responding appropriately is required. You will execute assigned HSE-related project activities and coordinate with team members to support QHSE matters. Assisting department seniors in completing QHSE tasks and performing other duties assigned by supervisors is expected.

The role demands effective work under supervision, taking ownership of assigned tasks, and adapting to shift work schedules, including day, night, weekend, and holiday duties. Maintaining open communication with relevant personnel and sharing knowledge within the organization is essential.

Demonstrating technical knowledge related to job functions and maintaining cost awareness to improve equipment efficiency is important. Frequent visits to terminal areas to monitor activities of staff and contractors will be part of your routine.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

This is a full-time position based at the terminal, offering a monthly salary ranging from Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 70,000. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, effective planning and organizing skills, and a proactive approach to workplace challenges. The ability to work collaboratively and maintain a professional, business-like demeanor in daily responsibilities is essential.
