Python Backend Engineer – AI-Powered Supply Chain Agents

Job Summary
We are building an intelligent agentic platform leveraging Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Large Language Model (LLM) technologies to tackle complex supply chain challenges, spanning procurement to warehouse optimization. We are seeking a skilled Python Backend Engineer to work closely with the founder to enhance and optimize our core backend systems. These systems handle critical processes such as data ingestion, chunking, embedding generation, vector indexing, retrieval, and multimodal LLM query responses.

The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing scalable backend features and ensuring seamless integration of advanced AI capabilities tailored for supply chain applications.

Key Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable backend features primarily using Python. This includes creating robust data ingestion pipelines capable of processing diverse formats such as CSV, PDF, and DOCX. Develop efficient chunking and preprocessing strategies for both structured and unstructured data to enable smooth downstream processing.

Generate embeddings from ingested data and manage their storage using vector databases like Qdrant or Pinecone. Build and optimize retrieval mechanisms—including BM25, hybrid, and dense retrieval methods—to assemble relevant context for user queries effectively.

Integrate multiple LLMs such as OpenAI, Ollama, and HuggingFace to deliver text-based responses and generate images based on user inputs. Develop modular backend logic to support specialized supply chain agents, including Procurement Agent, Inventory Risk Agent, and Compliance Agent.

Focus on optimizing system performance by minimizing latency and memory consumption across vector search, LLM calls, and response synthesis. Collaborate on the development of new agent capabilities and ensure smooth backend-to-frontend integration through well-designed API endpoints.

Implement robust error handling, retry mechanisms, and comprehensive logging for all external API interactions to maintain high system reliability and uptime.

Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional experience in Python backend development.
- Strong expertise in vector search technologies, embedding generation, and chunking methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with one or more RAG frameworks such as LlamaIndex or LangChain.
- Proficiency in working with APIs, including RESTful services, LLM interfaces, and vector databases.
- Ability to write clean, modular, and testable code that supports maintainability and scalability.
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience in supply chain, logistics, or business intelligence domains is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with full-stack development, particularly the interaction between frontend and backend systems.
- Understanding of LLM agent architectures, including tool calling and function routing.
- Exposure to multi-agent systems or prompt engineering techniques.
- Knowledge of infrastructure and DevOps tools such as Docker, Amazon EKS, ECS, GitHub Actions, and AWS is a plus.
