Job Summary
Specialist Medical Welfare, a reputable not-for-profit organization based in Karachi, is committed to delivering advanced medical and surgical care to both paying and non-paying patients. We are currently looking for a compassionate and skilled Nursing Staff Midwife to join our team for the night shift. This role is crucial in providing comprehensive prenatal and postnatal care, supporting mothers throughout pregnancy and childbirth, and working closely with healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for mothers and their newborns.
Key Responsibilities
The Nursing Staff Midwife will be responsible for identifying high-risk pregnancies and ensuring timely referrals to appropriate medical specialists. Routine checkups are a vital part of this role, which includes collecting patient samples and monitoring vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature to maintain maternal and fetal health. The midwife will coordinate with various agencies and health and social care professionals to offer continuous postnatal support to mothers and infants, ensuring a smooth transition after delivery.
Providing emotional support and counseling to mothers facing difficult experiences such as miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal abnormalities is an important aspect of this position. The midwife will also play a key role in training and mentoring junior staff members, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment. Organizing and leading pregnancy and parenting classes and workshops will help educate and empower mothers and families.
During labor, the midwife will closely monitor the process and advise mothers on pain management options to ensure comfort and safety. The role includes delivering full prenatal care, which involves conducting screening tests, and performing postnatal visits for up to 10 days following delivery to monitor recovery and address any complications.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have proven experience as a midwife or nursing staff with a focus on maternal and neonatal care. The ability to identify and manage high-risk pregnancies effectively is essential. Strong interpersonal and counseling skills are required to provide emotional and physical support to mothers during challenging times. Competence in conducting routine medical assessments and sample collection is necessary for this role.
Experience in training junior colleagues and facilitating educational sessions is also important. Candidates must be willing and able to work night shifts and provide in-person care at the healthcare facility.
