Mr. Anwar Azad is an accomplished development professional with a Master's Degree in Sociology and a rich background spanning 20 years in various fields such as management, coordination, mobilization, training, advocacy, research, communication, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E). His experience encompasses working with renowned rights-based and development institutions including the UN, RSPs, AKDN, NGOs/INGOs, and consulting bodies. He has held provincial and district-level positions with organizations such as SRSO, UNV, Plan International, The Asia Foundation, FOCUS, IRC, ECI, DCHD, SPO, Takhleeq Foundation, NDS, and RDOCC, focusing on sectors such as education, child protection, livelihood, disaster risk reduction (DRR), school safety, communication, governance & democracy, and human rights.
With a decade of experience as a Project, District, and Training Coordinator, Mr. Anwar Azad has demonstrated exceptional ability in project management, team leadership, and coordination with district administration, government line departments, corporate sector organizations, and civil society organizations (CSOs). He has been involved in numerous partnership-based initiatives with CSOs, joint projects with government institutions, and integrated multi-sector projects, contributing significantly to various development initiatives across different districts of Sindh.
As a trainer, Mr. Anwar Azad has developed training manuals for organizations such as Plan International, SPO, and IRC, focusing on child protection, citizen’s rights, advocacy, and DRR/school safety. He has conducted training sessions and facilitated workshops on these topics. In research, Mr. Anwar Azad possesses expertise in research methodologies including Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). He has led various research studies and surveys as a principal researcher, team leader, and enumerator.
His passion for writing and editing is evident through his contributions, which include the authorship of books, booklets, research articles, cover stories, organizational case studies/profiles, and newsletters. His works have been published by various NGOs, newspapers, and magazines, reflecting his commitment to advancing knowledge and promoting developmental initiatives.
In charge of overseeing all internal & external communication & documentation as per protocols and standards of the organization & ensuring its message is consistent and engaging. He manages, develops, & shares updates for SRSO‘s official social media channels regularly. He identifies, & develops success stories of program/ project lesson learnings, best practices, and impacts in an effective manner. Assist SRSO sectors and Program/project teams in developing reporting, communication, and visibility products to promote campaigns and initiatives effectively. He develops/edits,& publishes quarterly outreach newsletters, bi-annual Sindh magazine, annual reports, and e-publications, and success stories, documentaries, news stories, press releases, social media posts, website material & special event reports.
To plan and implement Enhancement of Non-Formal Education Project (UNICEF-JICA supported) interventions i.e; baseline & finalize NFC locations, facilitators’ hiring, formation and capacity of village education committees, establish and functionalize 60 NFCs according to set standards, schools/learning supplies, training for Teachers and VECs, conduct monthly teachers and stakeholders’ meetings, center and broad-based-community sessions, learners’ assessment, manage, monitor and facilitate project team and office, coordinate with the education department and other stakeholders, and report and document project progress.
Timely conduct and update measles campaign readiness assessment and compile assessment findings in the District dashboard and present to the DPEC and DHMT for review and corrective action. Assist and validate micro planning of the campaign at district and UC level. Monitor quality of preparatory activities (trainings/orientations, management meetings, ACSM activities, waste management, AEFI management, data management etc). Conduct Rapid Convenience Assessment (RCA) and supervision of the measles campaign using observers’ checklist as per guideline. Coordinate with DPEC and DHMT and follow-up of meetings minutes held at district level for campaign. Assist in coordination with DPCR for facilitating smooth field data collection on time and reporting at higher level. Assist in reviewing monitoring and supervision reports and making distribution plan for vaccine and logistics from district to service points. Assist in preparing Measles SIA technical report for the district at the end of the survey. Monitor Post SIA survey training and field data collection activities to be done by 3rd party for quality assurance using specific tools developed by WHO.
To plan and manage DAI Tabeer-Consolidating Democracy in Pakistan (DAI-supported) interventions i.e; trainings for electoral staff 2018 of the Election Commission of Pakistan, support and engage different stakeholders, coordinate, liaison and facilitate with ECP-DAI-Tabeer, manage and monitor/supervise logistic arrangement and team, and report and document trainings and learning under DAI Tabeer-Consolidating Democracy in Pakistan Program.
Develop effective partnership with govt. CSOs, LSOs and communities, plan, develop and publish advocacy tool kit, and visibility actions, form & activate Taluka Development Networks, organize advocacy events at local, district and provincial level, capacities of the LSOs on advocacy and develop UC based advocacy plans, and initiate awareness raising campaigns to achieve key objectives of DRR resilient based food security/livelihood advocacy in the context of right based approach under DRR and Livelihood Resilient Communities Through Food Security Project in Badin and Mirourkhas districts of Sindh (BMZ supported). He worked as focal person for child protection and communication at project level.
As District Training Officer, conduct and report capacity building and school safety initiatives for Partner CSOs, Teachers, and SMCs and education officials, coordinate with local partner CSOs and education department and facilitate and monitor to three Partners CSOs into project implementation in 100 govt. schools under Plan International, Pakistan supported Safer School Project (Sindh & Punjab).
Implement Care International, Pakistan supported Community Infrastructure Improvement Project for Women's Economic Empowerment and supervise the district office and team members, ensure implementation of project activities according to agreed work plan and facilitate, coordinate and support, district administration, donor and other private sector partner’s i.e: Tamer Bank, Telenor , Engro Foods, Shell Tameer & Asia Care in their supported interventions.
To monitor and report under Strengthening Transparency, Accountability and Electoral Process (STAEP) Program general election 2013 related trainings, voter education, candidate forums, election observation and regular STAEP activities i.e district forums, community groups, networking with Govt. and CSOs, reporting and documentation, and success stories conducted by implementing partner CSOs of the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in assigned 10 districts of Sindh.
Support the district govt. and social welfare department to set up and functionalize Child Protection Unit, develop standards for community-based protective services, service providers, mapping of child protection services and develop and publish child protection service directory, develop referral mechanisms at district and community level and build capacity of CPU, service providers, child protection committees and children forums under UNICEF/Plan International, Pakistan supported CRCFA Project. Work as Focal Person of Social Mobilization for child protection, education, health, livelihood and WASH project components.
Supervise the district office, team and coordination with stakeholders as team leader and ensure the implementation of project activities as per given framework; and ensure implementation of project activities according to agreed work plan and coordinate and support district administration, works & service, local govt. and social welfare departments and other private sector partners under Community Infrastructure Improvement Project (CIIP) for Women’s Economic Empowerment -Scale Up Phase (Care International, Pakistan supported).
Plan and implement project interventions i.e Identify suitable locations and establish 25 community schools, lead project team, mobilize communities and form 25 Parents Management Bodies (PMBs), organize campaign in targeted communities for children enrollment, monitor and support community teachers and field officers, organize and facilitate teachers & PMBs trainings, conduct students assessment, co-ordinate with education department, Sindh Education Foundatio-Govt. of Sindh and other stakeholders for the project support and report and document project progress under Rural Based Community Schools Project (RBCS) (SEF-Govt. of Sindh Supported)
As District Coordinator, implemented 4 projects and formed and coordinated District Core Group of Facilitators on human rights, women rights, tolerance & social harmony and Democracy and Secularism education and advocacy and facilitated, monitored and report community dialogues, community & district forums, conduct baselines and monitored & report situation in targeted rural areas of District Ghotki during 2004-2008.
Provide support to SPO in coordination and project monitoring and organize trainings for partners CBOs of Ghotki cluster.
Worked in SAP-Pak supported Development Information Center Project and responsible for to establish and functionalize information center, collect and disseminate information, compile data bank of 62 member CBOs and villages, capacity building of CBOs, develop CBOs case studies and edit and publish development review newsletter on quarterly basis during 1999-2000.
