Ali Akbar Tahir possesses a master's degree in electrical power engineering with an overall 7 years of experience in engineering, installation, and commissioning of solar PV facilities in the domestic sector monitoring, evaluation of World Health Organization (WHO) projects as well as in the power system load forecasting and planning studies for the transmission and distribution systems.
Ali’s areas of expertise include power system base case development, load flow studies, contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, transient stability analysis, dynamic system studies, generation interconnection studies, renewable power penetration, cross-tripping schemes, integration studies, BESS, costing, monitoring, and evaluation of engineering projects.
Worked as part of the team for developing transmission and distribution expansion plans and investment requirements till 2040 as part of the Integrated Resource Planning project for Lagos state in Nigeria – A USAID Project executed by Deloitte USA. The project involved validating existing transmission and distribution system models, preparing network models in PSS/E up to 2040, and formulating a detailed investment plan. Detailed costing of Transmission and distribution plans and capital Expenditure. • Performed load flow system modeling and studies using the PSSE tool along with contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, and Excel modeling for power system data processing. Cash flow, transformation station's augmentation, and report writing.• Was part of the team that carried out a reactor sizing study for a 247 km long 500 kV double circuit line from 2x330 MW generating units installed at the Thar Coal Mine in Pakistan.
• Carried out transmission system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability) such as generation interconnection studies, reactor sizing studies, etc. using PSSE software.• Worked on system flows, contingency analysis, reactive compensations, PV analysis, QV analysis, network schematics, preparing SLDs for network studies, geographical mapping of generation, grids, and transmission lines.• Worked and aided in project report preparations by extracting results in tables, illustrations, appendices, and text.
Surveyed and evaluated potential solar sites to examine shading, obstructions, and electrical service.
Developed design specifications and functional requirements for residential, commercial, and industrial solar energy systems and components.
Performed system design to meet criteria such as string sizing, inverter capabilities, single line diagrams, city permit plans, B.O.Q, and system maintenance.
Provided support to installation teams and assisted in the technical procedures during installation while monitoring performance.
