Principal Software Engineer

DigitalOcean is expanding its footprint in Hyderabad, India, and is looking for a Principal Engineer with over 15 years of experience in software development. This role suits a passionate technology leader who excels at building scalable cloud products that empower developers worldwide. Reporting directly to the Site Leader for India, you will independently manage a portfolio of cloud-based products, driving their growth and innovation through technical expertise and strategic vision.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical expert in infrastructure within the R&D team.
- Lead the design and development of cloud products, ensuring scalability and robustness.
- Develop and enhance product features using core Java technologies.
- Participate in short-term customer missions involving integration and support activities.
- Maintain a proactive approach toward research and innovation tasks.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, demonstrating strong teamwork and communication skills.

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Cloud/Edge Computing, Distributed Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with public and private cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) frameworks, and edge computing technologies.
- Deep understanding of product functionality, architecture, business drivers, and underlying technologies. Ability to prioritize improvements that enhance software architecture, quality, testability, maintainability, and efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of delivering strategic insights to senior leadership.
