We are seeking a versatile SQL Server Database Administrator with expertise in Application Management and Windows Server administration. The ideal candidate will ensure the availability, performance, and security of our client’s database systems while supporting application functionality and maintaining server infrastructure.
The role comes with technical lead responsibilities to acts as a leader, identifying and implementing improvement opportunities, while uplifting and upskilling others within the team. The role will oversee technical deliveries to ensure optimal database performance and security in technical deliverables.
The role will involve stabilising and uplifting the existing platform, plus supporting the discovery process / analysis of core financial system replacement options, considering future business and technology needs. The role will involve migrating the core system to a new platform, or building the new platform itself, along continuing to provide support and implement improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, upgrade and maintain SQL Server instances. Ensuring business continuity with production environment availability is a highest rating responsibility.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation.
- Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and server roles.
- Ensure server health through regular updates, patches, and performance monitoring.
- Provide technical support for database environments and application systems.
- Design and implement backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and failover systems.
- Develop and enforce production environment security policies to protect sensitive data. Work closely with security and infrastructure teams to ensure that databases and production environment are protected and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
- Perform regular audits to identify irregularities or potential security breaches. Support external auditors as a leader.
- Collaborate with developers & vendor to optimize queries and improve application performance.
- Provide technical support for production and test environments, including testing and installation of application patches and security updates.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related issues and provide on-call support when needed.
- Continuously evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools to enhance delivery processes and database performance.
- Develop SQL Scripts for support and reporting requirements.
- Automate routine tasks and jobs using scripts and tools.
- Document configurations, procedures, and processes for databases, applications, and servers.
- Oversee technical delivery of complex financial system, ensuring system is compliant with the set standards and polices.
- Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, and clients to define technical requirements, system architecture, and project milestones.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role.
- Proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SSRS and other database tools.
- Experience with High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions and Replication.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Expertise in Windows Server management, including Active Directory and server roles.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience in managing and optimizing high-performance systems, ensuring data integrity and security.
- SQL Server Certification is preferred
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL Database).
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for database administration.
- Knowledge of relevant compliance standards for financial systems, data privacy, and security auditing.
