Job Summary
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to oversee the daily inspection, maintenance, and management of laboratory equipment. The ideal candidate will ensure that all lab apparatus are in optimal working condition, support students during experimental procedures, and maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment. This role requires close collaboration with the Officer-in-charge and other team members to uphold safety standards and facilitate smooth lab operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections of all laboratory equipment to identify any issues or maintenance needs.
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing of lab instruments to ensure their proper functioning.
- Carry out thorough inspections of equipment and promptly report any discrepancies or unserviceability to the Officer-in-charge.
- Prepare and set up lab equipment prior to experimental work, ensuring all apparatus are ready and operational.
- Assist students during experiments by providing guidance and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Take responsibility for the care and management of all lab equipment and apparatus.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all laboratory instruments in registers or ledgers.
- Ensure the lab and all equipment are cleaned properly after use, maintaining a tidy and safe environment.
- Secure the laboratory and manage the lab store effectively at closing time.
- Keep all inventories organized, clean, and in excellent working condition.
- Ensure all electrical devices, including lights, computers, air conditioners, heaters, and lab equipment, are turned off before closing the lab.
- Perform clerical duties related to lab operations as required.
- Mark limited access areas in accordance with established safety standards.
- Collaborate as a team member during departmental events and activities.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in laboratory equipment maintenance and management.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to perform routine inspections and basic repairs on lab instruments.
- Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and manage inventories.
- Good communication skills to assist students and coordinate with the Officer-in-charge.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
