Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our team, specializing in UK tax compliance and accounting services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a wide range of accounting tasks including HMRC filings, VAT management, bookkeeping, and company setup support for UK-based clients. This role requires a strong understanding of UK tax legislation, proficiency with cloud accounting software, and excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, HMRC, and internal teams. The successful candidate will also play a key role in training junior staff and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit all necessary HMRC filings, including self-assessment tax returns, corporation tax returns, and PAYE submissions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage VAT registration processes, calculate VAT liabilities, and ensure timely VAT filings for clients operating within the UK.
- Handle comprehensive bookkeeping duties and prepare final accounts in accordance with UK Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (UK GAAP).
- Assist clients with the setup of UK companies, including registration with Companies House and ongoing compliance with statutory requirements.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of UK tax laws and regulations, applying this knowledge accurately to client accounts to ensure compliance and optimize tax positions.
- Act as a primary point of contact for HMRC, clients, and internal teams to resolve any tax or accounting-related queries promptly and professionally.
- Utilize accounting software platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or other UK-specific systems to manage client accounts efficiently.
- Prepare detailed management reports, year-end financial statements, and perform reconciliations of ledgers and bank accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
- Provide training and supervision to junior accounting staff, fostering their development and ensuring high-quality work standards.
- Ensure all accounting practices comply with UK regulatory frameworks and internal company policies, maintaining the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of UK tax systems, including VAT, PAYE, National Insurance (NI), and Corporation Tax.
- Proficiency in cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Sage, with the ability to adapt to other platforms as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex tax and accounting matters clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and strong organizational abilities.
