Job Summary
The Product Owner serves as the primary customer advocate for one or more Software Engineering teams, owning and managing the Product Backlog with a focus on scope and prioritization. This role is responsible for overseeing all facets of the product, including features, non-functional requirements, quality, and technical debt, to maximize value through software development. Success in this position requires building strong, collaborative relationships with management and teams across multiple countries, time zones, and cultures. A high level of technical expertise is essential to navigate the complexity of the products and deliver impactful solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Requirement Gathering and Analysis:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the product, its environment, and its features. Create clear, high-quality functional and non-functional requirements for changes of varying complexity. Focus on the customer journey to ensure requirements are purposeful, aligned with business goals, and consistent. Define specific, measurable Acceptance Criteria and validate that designed features meet both business and end-user expectations. Evaluate defects, non-functional requirements, and technical debt, prioritizing their resolution alongside feature development to maintain and enhance product quality. Produce documentation and artifacts describing product functions following approved processes. This role reports directly to the Senior Engineering Manager.
Prioritization and Planning:
Work closely with key stakeholders to establish priorities aligned with strategic goals. Support sprint planning and other preparatory activities to uphold the product vision and address evolving needs. Monitor progress to ensure alignment with client, business, and technical objectives. Coordinate development efforts and defect resolution across multiple teams and geographic locations, managing dependencies effectively. Continuously identify and implement process improvements to boost efficiency and delivery quality.
Work Practices and Relationships:
Collaborate with diverse partners, including Software Engineering, Project Management, and Product Delivery teams, to contribute to strategic planning and gain early insights into future scope and objectives. Partner with Agile teams to clarify requirements and identify design or technical gaps, addressing risks related to security, performance, and usability. Facilitate meetings and present software updates at various organizational levels. Champion Agile methodologies to foster effective Agile working practices throughout the teams.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Product Owner or in a similar role within a Software or Technology environment, demonstrating strong technical expertise and the ability to collaborate with customers and teams to define story acceptance criteria.
- At least 3 years of experience working collaboratively with clients or partners to understand their needs, provide timely updates, and manage the product backlog effectively.
- Solid background in Agile software product development, with hands-on experience in methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or XP.
- Ability to quickly grasp complex solutions and acquire new technical knowledge.
- Excellent networking and collaboration skills, with experience working across different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Strong understanding of business processes and the capability to translate these into clear technical requirements.
