Job Summary
SMEC is seeking a highly experienced Senior Contracts Expert to join our team for a significant hydropower project in Pakistan. This pivotal role focuses on managing all contractual aspects and ensuring that claims are addressed promptly and effectively throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in contract management and claims administration, particularly within hydropower and large-scale construction projects. Working closely with the Team Leader, you will oversee contract administration, assess claims, manage disputes, and contribute to the overall success of the project.
Key Responsibilities
You will assist the Team Leader in the comprehensive administration of Works contracts, ensuring all contractual obligations are met. A critical part of your role will be to identify and provide expert advice on claim-related correspondence received from contractors.
You will review contractors’ work programs to ensure compliance with contract terms, identify any delays, and issue formal notices regarding slow progress when necessary. Evaluating claims related to extensions of time and assessing cost impacts due to delays will be a key responsibility.
Processing contract variations accurately and advising on appropriate rates and price adjustments will be essential. You will also evaluate other cost and time claims submitted by contractors, ensuring they are justified and aligned with contract provisions.
Managing dispute resolution processes efficiently to minimize project risks and delays will be a vital part of your role, requiring strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering. A minimum of 25 years of professional experience is required, with at least 15 years dedicated to construction contract management.
Familiarity with FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Works is essential, as is a minimum of 10 years’ focused experience managing contracts and claims related to dams and hydropower projects. Recognized international qualifications or accreditation from HEC/PEC are mandatory.
The successful candidate will demonstrate proven expertise in handling complex claims, disputes, and contract negotiations. A deep understanding of contract law and project management principles is crucial.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required to effectively liaise with stakeholders and prepare detailed documentation.
