Job Summary
AKHS Pakistan is seeking a committed and experienced Lady Health Visitor/Midwife to serve the Sindh region, specifically in the communities of Talhar, Mubarak, and Sultanabad. This contractual position involves delivering essential maternal and child health services directly to local populations. The successful candidate will assess patients’ health status, identify treatment needs, and facilitate timely referrals to appropriate healthcare providers. This role is crucial in supporting AKHSP health facilities by providing compassionate care, health education, and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities
The Lady Health Visitor/Midwife will counsel community members on family planning methods, healthcare protocols, and best practices. Monitoring patients’ vital signs and initiating emergency interventions when necessary to stabilize conditions is a key duty. The role requires conducting thorough pre-natal and post-natal assessments for both mothers and newborns, as well as performing normal vaginal deliveries independently when no complications arise.
Administering nursing procedures such as injections, cannulation, fluid and medication administration, vaccinations, and point-of-care investigations falls within the scope of this position, adhering strictly to licensure and job category guidelines. The candidate will educate communities on breastfeeding, vaccination, hygiene, nutrition, and post-natal care to promote healthier behaviors.
Organizing and leading outreach clinics and health camps is essential, providing services and facilitating referrals to AKHSP centers. Accurate documentation of patient care, including input/output records and nursing activities, is mandatory. The role also involves administering infusions as directed by physicians and delivering in-service educational sessions on basic healthcare topics.
Providing moral support and counseling to patients and families, performing CPR, emergency procedures, intravenous cannulation, medication administration, basic surgical and wound care, and promptly reporting patient conditions to physicians are critical responsibilities. The candidate must calculate medication dosages accurately and maintain comprehensive nursing documentation.
Ensuring the proper functioning of medical equipment and notifying maintenance or administration teams of any malfunctions is required. The role includes supporting doctors, nursing assistants, and registered nurses in direct patient care when necessary. Additionally, the Lady Health Visitor/Midwife will assist with referrals to doctors and hospitals, including support for online clinics, and will learn and utilize computer software for billing, documentation, and patient history management. Conducting outreach clinics within the community and neighboring areas is also part of the job.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Diploma in Midwifery or Lady Health Visitor certification and be registered and licensed with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC). A minimum of one year’s experience in labor and delivery is required. Proficiency in local languages is essential for effective communication.
Applicants should demonstrate polite and courteous behavior, maintain a positive attitude toward authority, and have the ability to provide clear oral instructions to patients. Competence in maintaining nursing documentation, implementing nursing SOPs, and strong problem-solving skills are necessary. Proficiency in intravenous cannulation, medication administration, infection control, nursing protocols, and lactation management is also required.
