Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Area Coordinator and technical guidance of the Provincial Surveillance Officer, the Disease Surveillance Officer will play a vital role in advancing polio eradication efforts in alignment with national policies and WHO program guidelines. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust and sensitive Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance system within the assigned area. This role involves close coordination with government authorities and partners to monitor vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD), COVID-19, and other emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases. The position requires active participation in epidemiological investigations, training, data analysis, and supervision of surveillance teams to ensure timely, accurate, and quality disease surveillance and immunization activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Establish, maintain, and enhance a functional AFP surveillance structure, including developing and sustaining community informant networks in the designated area.
- Provide technical support and coordination to government bodies and partners on surveillance activities related to AFP, VPD, Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders (PID), Influenza-Like Illness/Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (ILI/SARI), COVID-19, and other outbreaks.
- Conduct timely investigations and follow-ups of AFP cases, ensuring proper specimen collection and transportation according to standards.
- Lead detailed epidemiological investigations as required to identify and control disease outbreaks.
- Plan and deliver training and capacity-building sessions for healthcare providers, government staff, partner personnel, and community informants to strengthen surveillance efforts.
- Facilitate regular surveillance review meetings at district and relevant administrative levels to assess progress and challenges.
- Perform active surveillance visits to health facilities in accordance with national guidelines.
- Supervise environmental sample collection and shipment processes where applicable.
- Analyze surveillance data comprehensively, review network performance, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions to improve system effectiveness.
- Supervise WHO surveillance teams operating at district and union council levels within the assigned area.
- Provide technical assistance for routine immunization and supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) as directed by provincial and national supervisors.
- Undertake any additional tasks assigned by supervisors to support program goals.

Required Qualifications
- Medical degree (MBBS/MD) with valid registration from the Pakistan Medical Council (PMC).
- Minimum of one year of professional experience post-house job in disease surveillance, polio eradication, immunization programs, health emergencies, or related public health or clinical practice.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications for data management and reporting.
- Experience working with community networks and understanding of grassroots health systems.
- Clear awareness of principles related to gender equality, sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment prevention.
- Fluency in English and Urdu, both written and spoken; knowledge of additional local languages is advantageous.
- Pakistani nationality is mandatory.
