Job Summary
The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad is seeking experienced Urdu Language Instructors to deliver specialized language training to embassy personnel. These instructors will design and implement curricula aligned with Foreign Service Institute (FSI) standards, provide instruction both in-person and virtually, and evaluate student language proficiency. The role requires creating tailored lesson plans that address the specific needs of adult learners, particularly in diplomatic, security, and administrative contexts.
Key Responsibilities
Instructors will conduct Urdu language classes for embassy staff across all proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced, following FSI guidelines. They will develop customized lesson plans and training materials aimed at maximizing learning outcomes and ensuring a structured delivery of content. The training will emphasize job-specific language, focusing on terminology and usage relevant to diplomacy, security, and administrative functions.
Regular assessments and language proficiency tests will be administered to monitor student progress. Classes will be delivered through both face-to-face sessions at the embassy and online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet. Instructors are also responsible for tracking and documenting student progress, submitting monthly reports, and providing feedback to supervisors.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics, Education, Urdu, or a related discipline. A minimum of five years’ experience teaching Urdu to adult learners is essential, with proven capability in curriculum development and conducting assessments based on FSI standards. Native-level proficiency in Urdu and professional fluency in English are required to ensure effective communication and instruction.
Applicants should demonstrate strong classroom management skills and cultural adaptability. Proficiency in MS Office applications is necessary, along with familiarity with online teaching tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet. Experience in managing adult education environments and delivering content in both physical and virtual settings is critical.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Information
Candidates with prior experience working in government agencies, embassies, or diplomatic training environments will be given preference. Ideally, applicants should reside in Islamabad or nearby areas and be available to start immediately.
Selected candidates must successfully complete the U.S. Embassy’s security clearance process. Submission of two professional references is mandatory. This is a contract position offering a monthly salary ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs60,000. The role requires in-person attendance at the embassy, with an expected start date of July 7, 2025.
