Psychologist, freelance therapist currently volunteering with Umang and a Social media savy girl, with a strong meme game who has previously handled famous Facebook pages such as Alid Art and Manhoos Billi.
Attending phone calls of troubled individuals going through trauma or personal crisis and counselling them with one to one private session via phone calls.
• Provided both physical and emotional support for young adolescents who had mental and physical needs, e.g. Autism and Down ’s syndrome.
• Ensured that there was an environment where patients felt safe and comfortable.
• Monitored patient’s mental state regularly and note any changes and what factors may have caused them.
• Maintaining the patient’s personal hygiene and wellbeing.
• Ensuring that the patient is properly fed and hydrated.
• Communicating and supporting the patient’s relatives and care takers.
• Proof reading, formatting and editing of documents such as participant questionnaires, contact sheets and participant forms, etc.
• Keeping up with the new admissions in CAMHS weekly, in order to find suitable participants for the study. (Participants include children aged 13-18, with mental disorders ranging from depression to anxiety, and intellectual disabilities such as Autistic Spectrum disorder).
• Photocopying and providing information sheets and consent/assent forms to all clinicians in both Primary Care and CAMHS
• Contacting and following up with participants’ parents via telephone, in order to arrange appointments.
• Greeting participants and their parents and directing them to the assigned room.
Research Tasks include:
• Providing participants and parents with information and instructions regarding the study.
• Logging and scoring of psychometric assessments that include; Family Functioning, Quality of Life, Life Events and Youth Self Report.
• Preparing clinicians report containing assessment scores for each participant.
• Discussing results of the test with the clinicians
I was responsible for engaging with the audience via Twitter, and Facebook comments and statuses. It was because of my witty replies, that the page was eventually able to gain over 100k followers within the space of 1 year. I made some of the memes which went viral, and Manhoos Billi became Pakistan’s grump cat.
Scheduled Posts to ensure it got maximum engagement and shares. Suggesting caption and monitoring comments.
• Attended the Samaritan training for 2 weeks, where training involved gaining knowledge in and applying key skills involved in psychotherapy, e.g. confidentiality, empathic understanding and active listening.
• Provided emotional support via phone calls (aprox. 50+ phone calls per month), emails and face-to-face to those in need.
• Actively listened to individual problems ranging from sexuality related problems, mental health issues, loneliness, depression and suicidal thoughts.
• Consoled those feeling suicidal or over the edge, mostly through phone calls and sometimes face-to-face (1-2 times a month), where majority of individuals felt significantly better after the call than before.
