The Translator/Interpreter role based in Chakwal, Pakistan, is responsible for delivering professional oral interpretation and written translation services between Arabic and English. This position supports a variety of activities including medical interviews, educational sessions, lectures, meetings, and the translation of technical and official documents. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating clear and accurate communication among patients, government authorities, legal advisors, and International Medical Corps (IMC) staff. Maintaining neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism throughout all interactions is essential to the role.
Key Responsibilities
Translate documents between Arabic and English as requested, including government papers, letters, and reports. Provide interpretation services during discussions, medical interviews, educational sessions, lectures, and meetings to ensure smooth communication and project continuity. Demonstrate respect and professionalism toward patients, collaborators, authorities, and IMC staff involved in communications. Maintain strict confidentiality of all translations as directed by the Project Coordination team. Ensure neutrality and accuracy in all interpretation and translation tasks, seeking clarification when necessary. Avoid personal bias in all verbal and written translations. Declare any conflicts of interest that could affect impartiality and request alternative staff for translation if needed. Perform additional duties as assigned, recognizing that the listed responsibilities are representative but not exhaustive.
Required Qualifications
A university degree or higher in translation, linguistics, or English language is essential. Proven experience as an interpreter and translator is required. Fluency in both spoken and written English and Arabic is mandatory. Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Express is necessary. Strong skills in writing formal documents accurately are also required.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience working with international organizations or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is highly desirable. Knowledge of medical terminology is an advantage, enhancing the ability to support medical interviews and related documentation effectively.
