One of the Specialized Scheduled Bank is seeking an experienced and strategic Risk Officer to lead its Risk Management and Credit Administration Division. This critical role involves overseeing the identification, assessment, and mitigation of various risks across the bank's operations. The Head of Risk Management & Credit Administration will work closely with the CEO, senior management, and the Board of Directors to ensure that enterprise risk management (ERM) is fully integrated into the bank’s strategic planning and decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Risk Management Framework: Develop, implement, and regularly update a comprehensive risk management framework tailored to the banking sector, ensuring alignment with banks strategic objectives and adherence to the SBP Risk Management Framework.
  • Risk Appetite & Tolerance: Define risk appetite and tolerance levels in consultation with the CEO and the Board of Directors, embedding these parameters into the bank’s operations and decision-making processes.
  • Credit Risk Oversight: Manage the identification, assessment, and mitigation of credit risks, including lending practices, portfolio management, and credit approval processes, ensuring alignment with the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: Continuously monitor the performance of the bank’s loan portfolio, ensuring credit exposures remain within established limits.
  • Credit Risk Mitigation: Develop strategies to mitigate credit risks, such as portfolio diversification, credit scoring models, and stress testing scenarios.
  • Market & Liquidity Risk Management: Oversee the management of market risks related to interest rates and other financial variables, and ensure the bank maintains sufficient liquidity to meet its obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational risks related to internal processes, systems, people, and external events, including fraud, cybersecurity threats, and business disruptions. Develop and implement operational risk management policies, including risk control self-assessments (RCSAs) and key risk indicators (KRIs).
  • Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery: Oversee the management of business continuity and disaster recovery plans to minimize the impact of operational disruptions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the bank’s risk management practices comply with all applicable banking regulations, guidelines, and industry standards. Liaise with regulatory bodies, including the State Bank of Pakistan, on risk-related matters, ensuring timely submission of risk reports and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM): Implement and manage an ERM framework that integrates all risk types (credit, market, operational, liquidity, compliance, legal, reputational, strategic) across the bank.
  • Emerging Risk Identification: Facilitate the identification and assessment of emerging risks, ensuring proactive measures are taken to mitigate potential impacts on the bank’s operations and reputation.
  • Strategic Integration: Collaborate with senior management to integrate risk management into strategic planning, capital allocation, and performance measurement processes.
  • Risk Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive risk reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, and relevant committees, providing insights on the bank’s risk profile and actionable recommendations.
  • Communication & Advisory: Ensure effective communication of risk-related issues across the organization, fostering collaboration and transparency. Act as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on risk-related matters, offering guidance on risk mitigation strategies and business decisions.

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, or CFA are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in credit and risk management within the financial industry.
  • Deep understanding of risk management principles, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex risk issues to non-experts.
