Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Carpentry and Fabrication Lead to oversee the planning, design, and execution of scenic elements, stage sets, exhibition stands, props, and custom fabrications for a variety of events. This role requires a hands-on leader who can translate complex design concepts into practical, safe, and visually compelling structures while managing teams and resources efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carpentry, fabrication, and project management, with the ability to collaborate across technical and creative departments to deliver exceptional event experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle of scenic and structural builds, including planning, design interpretation, construction, installation, and dismantling of event-related elements.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and design specifications, converting them into actionable construction plans that meet artistic and safety requirements.
- Source, select, and manage materials such as wood, metal, and composites, ensuring quality standards and cost-effectiveness throughout the fabrication process.
- Supervise and coordinate in-house carpentry teams, freelance carpenters, and external fabrication workshops, maintaining strict adherence to timelines, quality benchmarks, and safety protocols.
- Provide hands-on support or expert guidance during construction phases, ensuring precision and efficiency in assembly and installation.
- Collaborate closely with lighting, audio, video, and rigging teams to ensure seamless integration of technical elements within scenic structures.
- Evaluate the feasibility of designs from a construction standpoint, identifying potential challenges early and proposing practical, budget-conscious solutions.
- Apply expertise in structural integrity and load-bearing principles to guarantee the safety and stability of all fabricated elements.
- Develop detailed cost estimates covering materials, labor, fabrication, and third-party services, and manage production budgets with a focus on efficiency.

- Lead on-site operations during build, load-in, and load-out phases, ensuring smooth execution and timely completion.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical or construction-related issues that arise during setup and live events.
- Ensure all fabrication and construction activities comply with relevant health, safety, and industry regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments tailored to temporary structures and scenic components to mitigate hazards.
- Liaise effectively with creative directors, designers, marketing teams, clients, and venue management to translate artistic visions into practical, buildable solutions.

Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in carpentry and fabrication, particularly within event production or related industries.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex architectural drawings, structural plans, and technical riders. Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SketchUp is highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of temporary structure mechanics, rigging points, weight distribution, and safety standards.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to address on-site construction challenges and develop real-time solutions.
