Principal Developer

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Backend Architect to design and lead the development of scalable, maintainable system architectures that align with our long-term business objectives. This role requires a technical leader who can drive architectural decisions, ensure code quality, and foster a culture of excellence across multiple backend projects. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, delivering features while mentoring others and collaborating closely with leadership to shape the technical roadmap.

Key Responsibilities
- Design scalable and maintainable system architectures, including microservices, APIs, and data flows, that support the company’s strategic goals.
- Lead architecture reviews and make critical decisions for backend projects, ensuring alignment with best practices in performance, security, and maintainability.
- Write and review high-quality code, emphasizing testing, performance optimization, and security standards.
- Maintain environment parity across development, staging, and production to ensure consistent system behavior and reliability.
- Actively contribute to sprint cycles by delivering 4–6 features per sprint, demonstrating strong ownership of end-to-end system delivery.
- Enforce adherence to CI/CD pipelines, static code quality standards such as linting, and comprehensive test coverage.
- Monitor and improve key DORA metrics, including deployment frequency, change lead time, failure rate, and recovery speed, to enhance operational efficiency.
- Approve backend tooling and maintain pipeline health across active projects, ensuring smooth and reliable development workflows.
- Mentor mid-level and junior developers through pair programming, code reviews, and internal technical presentations, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Guide peers in adopting clean code principles, secure design patterns, and modern backend development practices.
- Participate actively in team-wide knowledge sharing and documentation efforts to promote transparency and collective growth.
- Collaborate closely with leadership to define and evolve the technical roadmap, ensuring architectural decisions support business priorities.
- Lead system design discussions and architectural reviews across teams, promoting cross-functional alignment.
- Serve as a role model for professionalism, code quality, and collaborative leadership within the engineering organization.

Required Qualifications
- Proven experience designing scalable backend systems, including microservices architectures, APIs, and complex data flows.
- Deep expertise with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, code linting, static analysis tools, and automated testing frameworks.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms and containerization technologies such as Docker, with a strong focus on maintaining environment parity.
- Solid understanding of DevOps culture, secure architecture principles, and backend tooling evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize system performance, reliability, and uptime.
- Strong mentorship and communication skills, with a track record of effectively guiding and developing engineering teams.
