Job Summary
Empowerment Technologies Inc. (ETI), a pioneer in innovative DIY security and baby safety products with over 20 years of industry experience, is seeking a meticulous Staff Accountant to join their fully remote team. This role is critical in managing daily bookkeeping, reconciliations, and month-end close activities that feed into consolidated financial statements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in accounting principles, discipline in meeting deadlines, and familiarity with accounting standards across the UK, USA, Canada, or UAE. This position requires working aligned with North American time zones and offers a competitive hourly wage.
Key Responsibilities
Cash & Banking: You will handle the posting of daily cash receipts, wire transfers, and ACH transactions. Monthly bank reconciliations for all operating and foreign exchange accounts must be prepared promptly, with any discrepancies resolved quickly. Additionally, you will reconcile corporate and virtual credit cards, ensuring expenses are accurately coded to the general ledger.
Accounts Receivable: Responsibilities include applying customer payments, credit notes, and chargebacks within the ERP system. You will monitor customer portals to verify receipts and identify any discrepancies, initiating disputes or claims for unmatched items. Maintaining an updated issues log for management review is essential.
Accounts Payable: You will download, verify, and upload vendor invoices into the approval workflow on a weekly basis. This includes matching purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices before posting approved invoices and scheduling payments. Preparing weekly payment runs (EFT/ACH/wire) for managerial approval is also required.
Inventory & Cost of Goods: Record inventory receipts, transfers, and adjustments in the ERP system. Assist with monthly inventory valuation and reconcile inventory accounts to the general ledger to ensure accuracy.
General Ledger Reconciliations: Maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliation workbooks for assigned accounts such as cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaids, fixed assets, taxes, loans, and equity. Supporting schedules must be documented and uploaded by the third business day each month.
Financial Reporting Support: Compile pre-close general ledger tie-out checklists and highlight outstanding items to the Accounting Manager. Respond promptly to any follow-up inquiries from management.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration: Adhere to documented standard operating procedures and proactively suggest process improvements to reduce manual effort. Maintain organized workpapers for audit readiness and provide regular status updates during daily check-ins.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in private company accounting (excluding public accounting firms).
- At least 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience, including bookkeeping, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Familiarity with accounting standards in the UK, US, Canada, or UAE.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics products such as Navision, Business Central, or Great Plains.
- Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work aligned with Eastern Standard Time (Canada).
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal abilities.
