This full-time position, based in Mirpur, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan, offers a vital opportunity to support tuberculosis (TB) control efforts within the development sector. The role focuses on delivering essential diagnostic services through mobile screening camps across multiple districts. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting TB screenings, ensuring accurate collection and handling of sputum samples, performing Gene Xpert testing, and reporting results to aid the national TB control program.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a full-time presence at mobile screening camps to provide Gene Xpert test services to beneficiaries. The role requires working six days a week and traveling between districts to conduct TB screening camps. Collect sputum samples from presumptive TB cases identified during the camps, providing clear instructions to patients on proper sample collection techniques to ensure sample quality. Prepare sputum samples for Gene Xpert testing following established standard operating procedures (SOPs). Monitor and maintain the temperature of sputum samples and cartridges in line with national guidelines. Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the Gene Xpert machine to ensure it functions optimally. Regularly check the equipment for malfunctions or errors according to SOPs and report any issues immediately. Ensure timely calibration of the Gene Xpert machine as scheduled. Keep the equipment clean and protected from dust by covering it properly after each camp. Safeguard the Gene Xpert machine and its accessories to prevent damage or loss. Communicate Xpert test results promptly to District Field Supervisors and ensure the registration of bacteriologically positive patients. Prepare and submit monthly statistical reports detailing screened, presumptive, and positive TB cases to the Program Officer. Attend training sessions related to the handling and operation of the Gene Xpert machine. Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Experience working with Gene Xpert machines or similar diagnostic equipment is essential. Candidates must be able to travel frequently and work in various district locations. Knowledge of sputum sample collection and handling procedures is required. Familiarity with maintaining laboratory equipment and strict adherence to SOPs is necessary. Strong organizational skills are important for maintaining accurate records and reports. A commitment to working six days a week in field settings is expected.
