The Manager of Risk and Market Surveillance at Pakistan Mercantile Exchange is responsible for overseeing the risk assessment and market surveillance functions within the organization. This role demands an individual with a strong analytical mindset, adept problem-solving skills, and extensive experience in financial risk management. The ideal candidate will possess a background in Actuarial Sciences, Risk Management, or Finance and will have relevant professional certifications such as FRM or CFA. The incumbent will lead a team of four, guiding them in implementing risk frameworks, conducting market analysis, and utilizing advanced market data analytics tools to ensure that organisational risks are mitigated effectively. This position also involves liaising with senior management, preparing comprehensive reports, and ensuring compliance with international benchmarks in risk assessment to optimize the organization's overall risk management strategies.
Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain risk assessment frameworks to ensure that margin requirements align with the inherent risks of market activities, addressing pro-cyclicality and adhering to international standards.
  • Create, validate, and refine Value at Risk (VaR) margin models to enhance risk assessment capabilities and promote informed decision-making.
  • Conduct stress testing scenarios to assess the adequacy of the Securities Guarantee Fund (SGF) and ensure readiness against market volatility.
  • Generate internal reports and dashboards that communicate daily market activity and risk exposure levels to senior management, facilitating strategic planning.
  • Monitor market makers' exposure and liquidity positions to provide timely risk disclosures and support the integration of new market makers into the organization.
  • Execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of newly developed functionalities concerning risk management and market surveillance to ensure robustness and compliance.
  • Document all models utilized for risk management, establishing comprehensive policies that govern their development, use, and validation.
  • Prepare detailed documents and presentations for the Risk Committee, summarizing key risk metrics and emerging market trends for decision-making.
  • Stay informed about global news and data trends that may influence commodity prices and market exposures, ensuring proactive risk management.
  • Design and implement an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework that identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks at both operational and strategic levels.
  • Oversee effective shift management within the department to ensure seamless operations and adequate coverage of responsibilities.
  • Delegate and manage tasks assigned by the Head of Department (HOD) while maintaining open communication to achieve departmental objectives.
