The Senior Library Assistant at Park Road Campus plays a crucial role in supporting the library's mission to provide exceptional information resources and services to students, faculty, and the community. This position involves overseeing daily library operations, assisting patrons with their information needs, and providing guidance to junior staff. The Senior Library Assistant will also contribute to the development and implementation of library programs and services, ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment for all users.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service:

    • Provide excellent customer service to library patrons by assisting with inquiries, locating materials, and offering guidance on library resources and services.
    • Conduct orientation sessions for new users, including students, faculty, and community members, to familiarize them with library services and resources.
  2. Supervision and Training:

    • Supervise and train junior library staff and student assistants, ensuring they understand library policies, procedures, and best practices.
    • Assist in scheduling staff shifts and managing daily operations to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
  3. Collection Management:

    • Assist in the acquisition, cataloging, and processing of library materials, including books, journals, and digital resources.
    • Conduct regular inventory checks and assist in the maintenance of the library collection, including weeding outdated materials and ensuring proper organization.
  4. Technical Support:

    • Provide technical support for library systems and equipment, including computers, printers, and audiovisual resources.
    • Assist patrons with the use of library technology, including online databases, e-books, and research tools.
  5. Program Development:

    • Collaborate with library staff to develop and implement programs, workshops, and events that promote library resources and services.
    • Participate in outreach initiatives to engage the campus community and promote library services.
  6. Administrative Duties:

    • Assist in the preparation of reports, statistics, and other documentation related to library operations and services.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of library policies and procedures.
  7. Professional Development:

    • Stay current with trends in library science and technology, participating in professional development opportunities as appropriate.
    • Engage in networking with other library professionals and organizations to enhance library services.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a library setting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
