The Social Assessment and Development Specialist will lead the design and implementation of social assessments for development projects, ensuring that social impacts are effectively managed and mitigated. The role requires expertise in social analysis, community engagement, and the integration of social considerations into project planning and execution

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and implementation of social assessments, including social impact assessments (SIAs), and ensure that social considerations are fully integrated into project design and execution.
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies, working directly with local populations, stakeholders, and marginalized groups to ensure their participation in the decision-making process.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and social safeguard policies, particularly in relation to resettlement, land acquisition, and labor standards, throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct gender and social inclusion analyses to identify and address disparities and ensure equitable benefits for all groups, including women, youth, and marginalized communities.
  • Support the development of social development frameworks and action plans, providing guidance on the design and implementation of social mitigation measures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of social development interventions, providing recommendations for improvements and ensuring that social outcomes are achieved.
  • Facilitate capacity-building efforts, providing training and support to government agencies, project teams, and local stakeholders on social assessment methodologies and community engagement practices.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, including social assessments, progress reports, and stakeholder communication documents, ensuring they meet international standards and donor requirements. 

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field.

Relevant Expertise:

  • Extensive experience in conducting social assessments and impact evaluations in large-scale development projects, particularly in infrastructure or urban development.
  • Knowledge of social safeguards, resettlement policies, and international social development standards (e.g., ADB, World Bank).

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with ADB, World Bank, or other international donor-funded projects.
  • Familiarity with social inclusion and gender equality frameworks in development contexts.
