The Solid Waste Management Specialist will lead efforts to design and implement efficient, sustainable, and environmentally sound solid waste management systems. This role involves developing strategies, conducting technical assessments, and managing projects related to waste collection, recycling, treatment, and disposal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated solid waste management plans, incorporating collection, segregation, recycling, treatment, and disposal solutions that align with international best practices.
  • Conduct technical assessments and feasibility studies for solid waste infrastructure, including waste-to-energy projects, composting facilities, sanitary landfills, and recycling systems.
  • Provide technical inputs and recommendations for project designs, procurement plans, and policy reforms to enhance solid waste management systems.
  •  Collaborate with government agencies, municipalities, and stakeholders to strengthen institutional capacity for managing waste systems and implementing innovative waste reduction strategies.
  • Promote the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices, including resource recovery, circular economy approaches, and community participation in waste management.
  • Ensure that all project activities comply with environmental and social safeguards, focusing on minimizing the environmental impact and improving public health outcomes.
  • Engage with international development partners, donors, and private sector entities to identify and mobilize funding for waste management projects, including public-private partnership (PPP) opportunities.
  •  Develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and sustainability of waste management initiatives, preparing detailed technical and progress reports for stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.

Relevant Expertise:

  • Extensive experience in planning, designing, and managing solid waste management systems and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of international standards and guidelines for waste management, including those of ADB, World Bank, and UN agencies.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in managing projects funded by ADB, World Bank, or similar development organizations.
  • Familiarity with innovative technologies such as waste-to-energy and circular economy approaches
