The Water & Sanitation Specialist will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing water supply, sanitation, and wastewater management projects. This role requires a deep understanding of technical, institutional, and financial aspects of water and sanitation systems, along with the ability to integrate sustainable and climate-resilient practices. The Specialist will engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, international donors, and communities, to ensure the effective delivery of services and the alignment of projects with local and national development goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for planning and implementing comprehensive water supply and sanitation systems, ensuring alignment with international standards and best practices.
  • Develop and support policies and strategies to improve water resource management and sanitation services, conducting reviews of institutional frameworks and recommending reforms where necessary.
  • Identify, develop, and manage water and sanitation projects, overseeing feasibility studies, technical designs, and procurement processes while ensuring compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
  • Collaborate with local governments, service providers, and communities to build institutional capacity and promote sustainable, inclusive service delivery approaches.
  • Foster stakeholder engagement by working with donors, public sector agencies, and private partners to advance project goals and encourage public-private partnerships (PPPs) for sustainable development.
  • Develop and implement robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks, ensuring progress and outcomes are tracked effectively and reported to stakeholders through high-quality technical reports and policy briefs.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing by identifying innovative solutions, disseminating lessons learned, and advocating for sustainable approaches to water and sanitation challenges.

Qualifications

  • Educational Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, or a related discipline.

Relevant Expertise:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing water supply, sanitation, and wastewater management projects.
  • Knowledge of global standards, such as WHO guidelines, and international development practices.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with projects funded by ADB, World Bank, or similar development organizations.
  • Expertise in integrating financial, institutional, social, and environmental aspects into water and sanitation project design.
